Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills for those with Borderline Personality Disorder

wendy douglasCAAMP presents Wendy Douglas, LCSW LCS24939, in a presentation about Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and working with those with borderline personality traits.  In DBT, clients are taught a number of skills that help reduce self-harming behaviors.  DBT skills allow clients to experience a better sense of emotional control and attain effective interpersonal relations.  DBT is a type of behavioral therapy that usually targets those with symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).  Additionally, Dialectical Behavior Therapy can be very effective at treating those with depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, substance use and many other symptoms.

Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by a pervasive pattern of instability in emotions, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects.  Those diagnosed with BPD have a high degree of relational instability, may engage in self-harming behaviors, and generally experience emotional suffering.

Wendy has extensive experience in outpatient settings, working with those with severe and chronic mental illness.  She has been trained at the advanced level in DBT and enjoys working with those diagnosed with borderline personality and emotion regulation disorders.  Wendy founded San Fernando Valley DBT (SFV DBT) in 2004 and currently oversees the programs offered there and facilitates open DBT Skills groups.  In addition to her degree in Clinical Social Work, Wendy also has a Master’s in Public Health.  Prior to starting her private practice, Wendy worked for L.A. County’s Health and Mental Health Departments for nearly 12 years.
